So here are my questions/observations that I would like to either have answered, corrected or confirmed….LOL!!! and please forgive me for my ignorance on some of this….i have been recording for over 25 years but have spent the last 15 years recording with the roland VS recorders and just made the switch to what I am using now earlier this year……so while i feel comfortable "recording", i am still getting up to speed on much of the newer techniques and technology.ġ) based on what i have read and seen in videos it appears that the chief benefits from analog summing are that it improves the quality of your monitoring, improves the quality of your conversion, provides more headroom in your mixes, improves the clarity of your mixes and also allows you to incorporate outboard gear into your mixes?Ģ) here is what confuses me……if i run a mic in front of a guitar cab into the apollo and record into logic then I assume the only conversion that takes place is when the apollo converts the analog signal into the digital signal for logic….correct? so after i have created several tracks in a similar fashion and I'm ready to mix and everything has already been converted and i send it out to a d box via analog and then get ready to send it back to logic (i assume via a digital signal with the spdif), are the converters in something like a d box so superior that actually improves the sonic quality of your music? or does the music come back to the daw via an analog signal (line inputs on apollo, i believe)? and if it does, then where does the added benefit of the d box's conversion ability come into play?ģ) how does the d box actually improve the sonic quality of your monitoring over the apollo? or rather, why does it improve it?Ĥ) if you are a guy like me and don't intend to add much, if any, outboard gear would you consider the benefits of a d box to be significant even without incorporating outboard gear? because i intend nearly 100% of my processing to be via plug-ins other than preamps on the front end.ĥ) as i read about this stuff i also see a lot about folks that seem to also have a stand alone converter box made by lynx or other companies…….can you help me understand why that would also be a necessity if you have an apollo and a d box?Ĭlick to om what I read between the lines you are simply looking to improve the quality of your productions / mixdowns / recordings because you are not happy with them. I mostly do rock and hard rock, 70's and 80's influenced.

I mostly use uad plug-ins along with a few from logic.

#SUMMING MIXER VS SLATE VIRTUAL MIX RACK PRO#
My setup currently is a macbook pro running logic x with a uad apollo quad. I am hoping to get a bit of help/clarification from those of you that can help. I have not been able to find answers to some of my specific questions via searches so i decided to post my questions….for the sake of argument let's say that I am "on board" with the concept of analog summing….therefore, i don't really want to get into a debate of whether everyone believes it helps or not…i have spent days reading those threads!!!! LOL anyway, here we go, thanks in advance for your help and time.!
#SUMMING MIXER VS SLATE VIRTUAL MIX RACK PLUS#

For over a week I have been doing searches on message boards, watching videos and reading articles……i have obtained a lot of info but in some ways that info has left me with me with more questions.
